ORANJESTAD – Dande di Aruba, een documentaire van de in 2019 overleden filmmaakster Cindy Kerseborn is nog steeds te zien via NPO Start of op 2doc.nl. Op nieuwjaarsdag was de film te zien op de Nederlandse televisie.
De documentaire gaat over de Arubaanse traditie waarbij muzikanten langs de deuren gaan om de bewoners de beste wensen voor het nieuwe jaar over te brengen. Volgens de overleden filmmaakster roept Dande ook veel vragen op bij de Arubanen.
Met de tambu tussen de benen op een veranda of onder de schaduw van de Kwihi boom, gaan ze in de film met elkaar in discussie over de oorsprong van hun inheemse muziek. Is de Dande met zijn aanstekelijke ritme Europees, Afrikaanse of inheems? Heeft het iets spiritueels, iets magisch? Of heeft Dande iets te maken met religie?
