ORANJESTAD – Alle coronamaatregelen worden binnenkort opgeheven en Aruba gaat dan weer volledig open. De minister van Toerisme en Volksgezondheid, Dangui Oduber is van mening dat Aruba momenteel in de vijfde COVID-19 golf zit en volgens hem kunnen er weer andere varianten ontstaan. “Aruba moet leren leven met het virus, omdat het misschien nooit zal ophouden te bestaan”.
De bewindsman werkt aan een plan om te leren leven met Covid 19. Het plan heeft de vorm van een exit strategie en is bedoeld om terug te gaan naar normaal met afbouw van de meeste coronamaatregelen.
De minister is ervan overtuigd dat Aruba meerdere instrumenten tot zijn beschikking heeft om de crisis te beheersen en dat maakt het voor de regering mogelijk om deze crisis op een andere manier te meten.
Tijdens de hele crisis hebben de autoriteiten geprobeerd een evenwicht te vinden tussen gezondheid en economie, maar ze legden de meeste nadruk op gezondheid. Dit zal niet veranderen, maar ook andere modellen zullen worden geëvalueerd. Ze zullen economische, arbeids-, financiële en culturele modellen opstellen en doorrekenen.
De exit strategie begint met een discussie om het virus endemisch te verklaren. Omdat er in het nieuwe scenario mensen besmet zullen worden met corona, staat uitbreiding van de IC-capaciteit naar zestien IC-bedden inclusief het benodigde personeel als vereiste in het plan. Dit zou betaald kunnen worden uit de opbrengst van de coronatests die de afgelopen twee jaar zijn gedaan.
Afschaffing van de verplichte Covid-verzekering voor reizigers en invoering van een heffing die specifiek dient om geld te genereren om weer in de zorg te kunnen investeren, maakt ook onderdeel uit van de exit strategie. Daarnaast komt er een soepeler toelatingsbeleid voor toeristen.
Wel wordt doorgegaan met de booster-injecties en vaccinaties. Het vaccin heeft zijn efficiëntie bewezen en zal verder worden aangeraden. Tijdens de vierde golf werden 116 patiënten opgenomen in het ziekenhuis, waarvan 82 procent niet was gevaccineerd.
