Sint Eustatius – De uitslag van de eilandraadsverkiezingen op Sint Eustatius blijkt na het tellen van de voorkeursstemmen nog zuurder voor politiek Den Haag dan dat deze door de winst van de Progressive Labour Partij (PLP) al was.
Lijstduwer Clyde van Putten die door Nederland als de verpersoonlijking van het jarenlange wanbestuur wordt gezien is met 171 stemmen uitgeroepen tot de ‘votegetter’. Minstens zo pijnlijk voor Den Haag is de samenstelling van de nieuwe eilandsraad. Die is precies hetzelfde als voor de ingreep van februari 2018 toen het complete lokale bestuur wegens ‘grove taakverwaarlozing’ door staatssecretaris Raymond Knops (BZK) werd ontslagen.
De bevolking lijkt met deze uitslag en de onverminderde populariteit van de naar meer zelfbestuur voor Sint Eustatius strevende Van Putten Den Haag te hebben willen afstraffen voor het gebrek aan (zichtbare) verbetering sinds een van een ruim budget voorzien legertje Nederlandse ambtenaren onder aanvoering van een regeringscommissaris de macht heeft overgenomen.
De opkomst lag met 76,9% 12% hoger dan bij de laatste eilandraadsverkiezingen in 2015. Van de 1.586 getelde stemmen is 38% per volmacht uitgebracht. Van de 5 zetels bezet de PLP er 3, de Democratic Party 2.De eilandsraad heeft overigens voorlopig niet veel in te brengen. Er komt geen Bestuurscollege en de enige die besluiten mag nemen blijft regeringscommissaris Marnix van Rij.
